NAPO-WDC’s White Elephant Sale
NAPO-WDC’s First Ever White Elephant Sale at the June chapter meeting was a huge (can I say elephantine?) success!
Who doesn’t have stuff they no longer need or want? We all do! That was obvious when chapter members started arriving at the meeting, bringing hundreds of organizing and business items for our White Elephant Sale. We had books on organizing, file folders, storage boxes, hooks, containers for this, containers for that, books on running your business, trays, T-shirts with organizing phrases, drawer organizers, tote bags, 3-ring binders with sheet protectors, more books, and many more items.
All were priced to sell quickly – at $1, $2, or $3. And we even had a “free” table.
Special thanks to the six volunteers who staffed the tables – Flavia Campos, C. Lee Cawley, Keri Myers, Ronnie Perry, Cris Sgrott-Wheedleton, and Nealey Stapleton. As items were brought in, they quickly assigned them to one of the tables. They did a great “selling” job encouraging members to buy, buy, buy (and I noticed they each bought a few items themselves, as did I!). As they sold the items, they collected the money – a total of $362! Half went to our Community Partner, A Wider Circle, and the other half to the winner of the drawing – Pierrette Ashcroft (each person bringing an item got one chance for each item they brought).
What did we do with the stuff that was left at the end of the evening? Corporate Partner B-Thrifty was on hand to take it all away to their thrift store in Woodbridge, VA.
What an evening! Not only did we offer chapter members an opportunity to easily shed some of their excess and to buy things they want and need at a great price, we made a donation to a charity, provided a corporate partner with items for their thrift store, surprised the lucky winner of the drawing with a tidy sum of money, and WE HAD FUN!
Everyone agreed we should do this again. So start setting aside some of those things related to your organizing business that are no longer for you, but just might be what a colleague has been looking for!
